On the road by 0800, and our destination
is Elephant Rock Naturally. The hour
plus trip in was okay. Some road works
made us stop for a few minutes and slowed us down a bit but this one is so close
to home so not a worry really. 1.25
hours on a good day. The weather is cool
and overcast due to a storm early morning.
Was very strange to see lightning and hear thunder in the dark and it
woke me up.

30.03.12 Gordon Country … Pups On The Run
30.03.12
We managed to squeeze an extra night into our weekend, so spent no time hitting the road and getting things under way, passing our last set of traffic lights by 0815. The day is gorgeous and we hope the entire weekend will stay this way.
Our last trip got rained out (literally) and now the camper has a musty smell when you open the rear draw door … not happy Jan.

Leaving home and heading towards Ipswich, we turn off onto the Cunningham Highway. Passing Willowbank Raceway, we marvel at how beautiful the day is, considering the local forecast is for showers. It is a little overcast with a bit of wind, but the sun is rather warm, when it does appear. Heading through the little towns of the Scenic Rim is always a great drive. Contended cows are everywhere and we are happy it is finally Spring.
Passing through Aratula, we take note of the usual tourists stopping off to grab some cakes and coffee or take advantage of the fruit store in the centre of town. On the outskirts we see blokes in 4wd’s pulling up outside the pub and think it is a bit early for it. Perhaps they are planning to grab some seafood at the mobile fisho

Booked in here site unseen ... just hoping for the best. We'd heard alot about Gordon Country and Goomburra Valley, and the photo's on their websites looked nice. So we were hoping that alot of walks through the National Park would keep us entertained if all else failed.

So we packed up the camper and had our latest 'on the road' time so far ... 9am. We weren't worried though as we didn't have very far to go at all. Roughly 103k's in all. I know ... seriously big trip this time! LOL!
We made it to Aratula in good time, so decided to stop at the Bakery and grab some morning tea and an after dinner treat. Sausage Rolls weren't up to Big Dad standards, but the Vanilla Slice and Date Loaf were excellent. We also stopped at the pub to grab some prawns for lunch
